Enslaved women endured the constant, agonizing fear that their children could be torn from their arms and sold away at any moment. For most, this nightmare became reality, and these heartbroken mothers were left to grieve children they would never see again. Amid this profound loss, they were also forced to care for and nurture the children of their white enslavers, all while longing for the sons and daughters who had been stolen from them.
